I will give you 5 Ways to Use Windows 8:

1.  Disable the lock screen

If you want your PC to boot as fast as possible, then one alternative is to disable the lock screen. Here's how.

Press the Windows key and the key "R" on the keyboard simultaneously, then type gpedit.msc (Local Group Policy Editor) and browse to Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> Control Panel> Personalization.
Double-click on 'do not display the lock screen', select Enabled and click OK.
Restart and lock screen will disappear.
If you can not easily find gpedit.msc, you can do a search by typing boxed 'mmc', and then press Enter. On the File menu, click 'Add / Remove Snap-in', then on 'add or remove Snap-in' dialog box, click the Group Policy Object Editor ', then click' add '.
In the dialog box 'Select Group Policy Object', click 'Browse'. Click on 'this computer' to edit the Local Group Policy object, or click on 'User' to edit the Administrators, Non-Administrators, or per-user Local Group Policy object, and then click 'end'.

2. Without installing any need to click the "allow"

Most mobile platforms recommend you only install apps from approved sources to protect your security, and Windows 8 is the same: will only allow you to install the trust (ie digitally signed) application from the Windows store.

If this proved to be a problem, though, and you are willing to take the security risks (because this is not something to try unless you are completely sure it is safe), then the system can be configured to run trusted applications from any source.
run gpedit.msc (see above for instructions on how to find it), browse to Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> Windows Components> App Deployment Pack, double-click the 'Allow all trusted app to install' and select Enabled> OK.

3. Log on automatically

WARNING: Your account will lose admin privileges as a result of this move.

Of course even if you remove the lock screen, you will still be forced to log in manually each time your system starts. It can also be completed on cepa, using much the same techniques as in previous Windows versions.
Hold down the Windows key, press R, type 'netplwiz' and press Enter to start the User Accounts dialog.
Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" box and click OK.
Enter your user name and password of the account you want to login automatically, click OK, restart your system and this time it should boot directly to the Start screen.

5. Quickly launch programs

If you're a fan of keyboard shortcuts and do not like the look of tile scrolling through the app to find the program you need, do not worry, Windows 8 still supports the old way useful. Perfect if, say, you want to be able to shut down your PC with a single click.
Run the application desktop, right-click an empty part of the desktop and click Shortcut> New.
Browse to the application you want to start here. For the sake of this example, enter
shutdown.exe-s-t 00
to shut down your PC, or
shutdown.exe-h-t 00
to hibernate, and click Next. Type the name of the shortcut - 'Hibernate', - and click Finish.
Right-click the shortcut, select Pin to Start and must appear at the far right of the Start screen - just drag the tiles wherever you like.

How to Install Windows 8

Windows 8 is Microsoft's latest operating system which is completely redesigned. It moves away from the traditional interface to a completely new interface known as Metro User Interface. The familiar start menu is now gone. Icons and windows are replaced with live tiles and magazine styled interface. Unlike any previous versions, Windows 8 and its variation RT works across multiple architectures and has been optimized for touch screen. So it will work on Intel based PCs or an ARM based tablet.


This step-by-step guide demonstrates how to install Microsoft Windows 8 Professional. You can follow this guide if you have Windows 8 basic edition or any other version as the steps are very similar.


The best way to install Windows 8 is to do a clean install. Before you start the installation process I recommend that you check Windows 8 System Requirements to ensure that your hardware is supported by Windows 8. If you don't have Windows 8 drivers for all your hardware, it is a good idea to download all the drivers from the hardware manufacturers web site and save all the necessary drivers on a CD/DVD or a USB drive before you start the installation.


Windows 8 Professional DVD is bootable. In order to boot from the DVD you need to set the boot sequence. Look for the boot sequence under your BIOS setup and make sure that the first boot device is set to CD-ROM/DVD-ROM.


Step 1 - Place Windows 8 DVD in your dvd-rom drive and start your PC. Windows 8 will start to boot up and you will get the following screen with a rotating progress bar.

Step 2 - The next screen allows you to setup your language, time and currency format, keyboard or input method. Choose your required settings and click next to continue.

Step 3 - The next screen allows you to install or repair Windows 8. Since we are doing a clean install we will click on "install now".

Step 4 - The setup process starts as shown.

Step 5 - At this stage you need to type your product key that came with your copy of Windows 8. Click next once you have entered the product key correctly.

Step 6 - Read the license terms and tick I accept license terms. Then click next to continue.

Step 7 - Choose the type of installation you want. Since you are doing a clean install you need to click on custom.

Step 8 - Choose where you would like to install Windows 8. If you have one hard drive you will get an option similar to the image below. You can click next to continue then go to step 12.


If you have more than one drive or partition then you need to select the appropriate drive and click next. At this stage you can go to step 12.


If you want to partition a large drive then do not click next. Go to step 9.

Step 9 - If you want to partition an existing drive then click new. Choose the size of the partition and click apply.

Step 10 - Click OK to create the partition. Windows will create additional system partition which you don't have to worry about.

This week I ran into some problems with my tiles. They stopped working when I clicked on them and they didn’t trigger any toasts when I got a mail or something.

I did some searching on the web to see if others ran into this problem. As it turned out, yep, a lot of people had this problem. There were lots of solutions yet none of them worked for me.

Somehow I ended up watching a video on YouTube of someone complaining the tiles weren’t working, and someone has commented that he should reinstall the tiles.

So I tried it.

Opened the Store, then selected all my apps and selected all (CTRL+A), then I clicked install. It took about a minute then everything was reinstalled.

Amazingly enough, the default system apps did not work. The apps got a circle with an X in it. ( What does that mean? )

I tried again, reinstalled the apps that were not working… Now only one had a cross on it. So I reinstalled it.. and it worked!

Now all my tiles are working again!

Yay!

So the old Fix-all-the-windows-problems-by-reinstalling-trick works still… who knew…

Users download the apps and play them within the emulated Android operating environment. Since most games are optimized for touchscreens, Lenovo is expected to unveil the feature primarily on its touchscreen laptops.

Sure, Lenovo is fixing the failures of one platform by cramming another one awkwardly on top. But for Windows 8 users who are hungry for apps, this feature could make a world of difference.

Microsoft is releasing Windows 8, the newest version of the Windows operating system, for general availability on October 26. Although Windows 8 offers enhanced security features, it also raises new security concerns because of changes to the graphical user interface and a new online app store. We’re offering the following eight security tips to help you stay secure as you move to Windows 8.
1. Exercise caution with apps for the new Windows 8 user interface (formerly known as Metro)

Some familiar applications have been completely re-written for the new Windows 8 UI. As a result they may work completely differently, despite looking the same. For example, an application historically delivered as an executable could now be entirely web-based. This impacts the visibility your existing security and monitoring tools have into these apps.
2. Use the Windows 8 style UI version of Internet Explorer

By default, plugins are disabled, blocking a major target for exploit kits and Blackhole attacks.
3. Make sure your security vendor can flag malicious Windows 8 UI apps

Windows 8 UI apps have important differences from regular applications, and your security product should be able to distinguish the two. The security product should correctly flag malicious or modified Windows 8 UI applications (tampered, modified, invalid license).
4. Disable hard drive encryption hibernation

Hard drive encryption is a cornerstone of data protection. If possible, disable the hibernation option in Windows 8 through group policy, as it doesn’t always work well with encryption.
5. Make sure your hardware carries the “Designed for Windows 8” logo

To carry this logo, hardware must be UEFI compliant. This means you can take advantage of the secure boot functionality available in Windows 8. Secure boot is designed to ensure the pre-OS environment is secure in order to minimize the risk from boot loader attacks.
6. Make application control a priority

The Windows 8 app store makes application control increasingly important for both malware prevention and productivity control. While the Windows Store will be secured, history shows that malicious apps are likely to slip through. Disable the use of apps that aren’t relevant to your organization.
7. Treat Windows RT (ARM) devices like any other mobile devices

Make sure you impose the same security levels on Windows RT devices as all others. You should have the ability to control, track, remote wipe and encrypt them.
8. Review application permissions in the Windows Store

Applications in the Windows Store must list any resources they require. Carefully review these permissions in the details tab as some will grant access by default to your location information, calendar, etc.



You should still run a full security suite for superior filtering and centralized management and reporting. While Microsoft has included a minimalist antivirus and firewall, most organizations will still require commercial-grade security. And of course, all the old security rules also apply with Window 8. It’s still a bad idea to allow automatic log-on. Above all, remain vigilant.
